FCCLA Region 1 Competition

March 6 - 8, 2025

Lubbock, TX

 

The Perryton High School FCCLA chapter had 18 members compete at this year’s Region 1 STAR Event Competition held on March 6 - 8, 2025 in Lubbock, TX.

The PHS FCCLA chapter was recognized for its contributions to the state FCCLA News Across Texas promotion program.  Our chapter was also recognized for The Most Logged Hours of Community Service for a Medium chapter in our region.  Our competition team members were also recognized for being the most active chapter in the voting process of the Spotlights on Projects.

The PHS FCCLA chapter had several first place winners at our Region 1 Competition.  The Texas Toys That Teach group of Alexa Rosales and Aiko Valdez Pacheco earned first place with their Baggin’ and Braggin’ toy that they created.  They will advance to state competition.  Jaelan Appelhans received a first place in the Fashion Construction, level 3 event with her Queen of Wildflowers project.  She will advance to state competition.  Marisol Garcia and Addison Brown earned first place with their Event Management, level 2 project “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” that provided Valentine’s Day events at The Seasons and Capstone Health.  They will advance to state competition.  

Jazlyn Cervantes earned 2nd place with her Career Investigation project over becoming a General Surgeon.  She will advance to state competition.  

Earning third place with their Chapter Service Project Display titled “The True Meaning” was Diego Rosales, Valeria Mendoza, and Marisol Llamas.  Their project was about the Crisis Center Angel Trees.  They will advance to state competition.  

Earning fifth place in their Professional Presentation, Level 3 over child abuse awareness were senior FCCLA members Julia Alfaro and Valerie Ramirez.  They will advance to state competition.

Our FCSA competitors represented our chapter very well.  Destiny Vasquez earned a gold medal and Mia Gonzalez earned a silver medal in the Step One FCSA.  Sara Flores earned a gold medal in the Creed, Mission, Purpose FCSA!  All three young ladies will advance to state.

Julia Alfaro was recognized for her Power Of One Five Unit  of Individual Self Improvement Completion.  Julia will also receive recognition at the state ceremony as well.

Honorable mentions go to Abraham Gonzalez for his Professional Presentation, Level 2 project “Our Future is Science-tific!”.  Our Repurpose and Redesign, Level 2 - Noemi Llamas, and Rosa Lopez-Uribe received honorable mentions for their Filer Fortress project.  The Spotlight on Projects - Community Service group, that worked with Capstone Health, of Destiny Vasquez and Mia Gonzalez received Honorable Mentions.  An Honorable Mention also goes to Gissell Becerril for her Texas Cupcake Presentation, Level 2 project where she also received a $500 scholarship.  This is Gissell’s second  year to compete in the Cupcake Presentation project bringing her total scholarship earnings for this competition to $2,500.  These young people will be attending state competition and competing in the FCSA Creed, Mission, Purpose competition.

A huge thank you goes to Chloe Tanner, PHS FCCLA Alumni, who served as our chapter evaluator volunteer, and Dent Felix for being our fantastic and amazing bus driver.  Our amazing FCCLA officer team deserves a huge shout out for helping support and encourage our competition team.  Our FCCLA seniors deserve special recognition as well.  Many of our senior competitors have been competing for four years and have represented our chapter and school in region and state competitions.
